What do you read?
"The thief cometh not, but to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. " John 10:10
Are you carried away by every wind of doctrine?
Do you believe what you hear or read?
Do you go to God's Word and do research for your self?
"And ye have not His Word abiding in you: for whom he hath sent, Him ye believe not. Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me." John 5:38-39
There are people out there just to get your money and your salvation.
One must know whom they serve, and why, especially in these last day if one is able to stand.
"Our upbringing and the whole atmosphere of the world we live in make it certain that our main temptation will be that of yielding to winds of doctrine, not of that of ignoring them. We are not at all likely to be hidebound: we are likely to be the slaves of fashion. If someone has to chose between reading the new books and reading the old, one must chose the old: not because they are necessarily better but because they contain precisely those truths of which our own age is neglectful. The standard of permanent Christianity must be kept clear in our minds and it is against that standard that we must test all contemporary thought. In fact, we must at all costs not move with the time.
We serve One whom said "Heaven and earth shall pass away, but My words shall not pass away." Matthew 24:35; Mark 13:31; Luke 21:33
- C.S. Lewis, "Christian Apologetics," in: Essay Collection and Other Short Pieces Pg. 149
We all need those books that will correct the mistakes of our own current period.
If we don't read what some of our Christan forefathers went through then how will we know if we are being blindsided or lied to?
The Bible is not on trial - it is the true and living Word of God.
It has been tested and tried down through the ages.
It has stood the test of times and now there are many artifacts that have proven it's not a fraud.
I am not here to argue your beliefs with you.
I am here trying to tell you that we need to stop arguing, rely on the Holy Spirit and not on our own reasoning; and start worshipping God, not just merely talking about Him.
We must be a people of well grounded, unambiguous, rich gospel truth - one that will sustain courage and confidence in the face of affliction and false religions.
Where our corporate worship will not be diluted with cultural substitutions and God's glory will be guarded.
The Holy Spirit works through the Word preached, engaging our hearts and minds bringing man to Christ.
We are to guard that which we have received.
So many have gone on before us and left us details of hardships, of which gives us strength to endure ourselves.
Their passion, their suffering, their perseverance, their affliction gives us inspiration.
Whatever may have come their way, they never gave in.
The Giver and Sustainer of Life enabled them to worship through their suffering.
This is why they had so much fruit, and was not blown away with the blowing breeze.
Would you let God give you that kind of hunger?
Do you want to be able to stand no matter what?
When you have that soul satisfying hunger, there will be no running away, it will only engulf you even more.
"What soul that hath any acquaintance with these things fall not down with reverence and astonishment? How glorious is he that is Beloved of our souls!...When our life, our peace, our joy, our inheritance, our eternity, our all, lies herein, shall not the thoughts of it always dwell in our hearts, always refresh and delight our souls?"
-John Owen, "Of Communion with God, in: The works of John Owen, Vol. 21 Pgs. 105-113
If we do not delight in our Lord and Saviour through the truth that we defend, we defend not our Lord.
